Windows 2003 Server Support Engineer

Full Server Admin/Support role (no desktop)

This is a specialist server infrastructure support role within a progressive, successful and expanding technology company. Strong server support skills are the key to this role and the profile required for the position comprises:

- In-depth Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 server support skills (including server build)

- Substantial experience of patching and updates

- Exposure to major release upgrades

- Pro-active approach to problem-solving and performance issues

- Implementation of Test, QA and Production environments

- Remote server management/support/deployment knowledge

Experience of server support within high-availability systems (clustering etc), data centre environments, SQL Server databases and security/network infrastructure would be ideal. You should be a strong communicator with high attention-to-detail and a strong delivery focus will also be required.

For a technically-minded individual, this server/infrastructure support role represents a real challenge and an opportunity to develop your skills in a large and sophisticated server environment with a wealth of high-availability, "always-on" issues to address. The role is a shift-related one with a 4-day rotational shift pattern.

SQL Server Enterprise Edition

This is an excellent opportunity for those with SQL Server DBA experience to work in a technically-challenging environment within a successful, dynamic business with global coverage. My client’s culture is relaxed, team-orientated and transparent and the IT arena is clearly motivated by the technical challenge of its work. The database environment consists of multiple SQL Server databases and the profile required is: 

·       Minimum of 2 years’ practical MS SQL 2000/2005 Production DBA experience

·       Design and development of SQL Server database objects

·       Database backup and restores on large-scale/high performance/high availability databases

·       Setup and optimisation of SQL Server databases

·       Database replication

·       Microsoft Clustering

Experience of the following would be extremely beneficial:

·       MS SQL Server 2000/2005 (Enterprise Edition)

·       Data Warehousing and MS Analysis Services

·       Good level of competence in TSQL

·       MCDBA/MCITP Qualification

The role encompasses the full SQL Server DBA remit including ensuring that databases are optimally sized and constructed / implemented to appropriate/agreed standards, monitoring and adjusting SQL Server database parameters and configuration, maintaining uptime and security/stability of data, monitoring database capacity and growth (e.g. SQL extents) and liaising with the SAN Storage management service. You will also be called upon to perform required/regular maintenance tasks against the SQL Server database, providing reports and statistics to management as required, set up monitoring and reporting tools to predict or alert to any problems with DB performance or operation, analyse, design, develop and deploy database objects as required and respond to emergency out of hours calls for serious DB problems
